I recently was standing in line at my local Dollar Tree scooping up some more of those sturdy Sterlite plastic bins for all my drugstore bargains I get when I couldn’t help eavesdropping on a teen girl and her mother. The conversation went something like this:
Teen: Mom why can’t you just let me wear make-up that regular stores sells, I’m only asking for a few things.
Mom: Have you seen the price of those new lip glosses you want?
Teen: You act like $20 is going to break you for a couple of Covergirl glosses! Geesh Mom all the other girls have them why can’t I?
Mom: Because I can’t justify the price when the dollar store version is just as good if you apply it throughout the day!
Teen: Duh! Mom that costs more than using it once per day for the Covergirl brand! Hello!
Mom: Enough already otherwise you won’t even get the dollar store brand!
Well at that point I felt bad for the girl, she was extremely pretty in a natural way with subtle make-up just to bring out her natural beauty. I excused myself and mentioned that CVS had a great Covergirl deal and asked if she wanted a couple of coupons. At first I think the mom was a bit shocked like I was being rude but then she asked if I was serious or just feeling sorry for her daughter. I giggled a bit and proclaimed that I was 100% serious and yes I felt bad for her girl since she was spending more at the dollar store than she would overall at CVS. I told her if she didn’t believe me that I would show her my receipt where I purchased 3 Covergirl lip colors plus 2 Colgates and diabetic monitor for less than $2 (see previous entry) with the disclaimer of course that her first time wouldn’t be as great if she didn’t have any ECB’s. Well low and behold dear mom had a $4 ECB from just buying 2 things of Colgate but she wasn’t savvy to rolling her ECB’s over for more ECB’s.
So long story short I gave the lady and her daughter a B1G1F Covergirl coupon and a $1 Covergirl coupon and told her to get 2 Covergirl Outlast lipcolors on sale and 1 Covergirl Amazemint Wetslicks and that she would pay a penny less before taxes after her ECB and 2 coupons. I followed them to CVS since she wasn’t sure it would work. Well mom got 2 Covergirl Outlast lipcolors and gave the Covergirl Amazemint Wetslicks to her overly happy daughter and told they would get something else later with the $5.99 ECB after they went through their coupon inserts at home.
Nothing like sharing a deal with a stressed out mom and creating a new “addiction” for both mom and daughter!
